That's right, the official name is eMalahleni. Why bother - even Toronto has been renamed from York, Dún Laoghaire from Kingstown, and so on. Except for the Western and Northern Cape, Afrikaans is just a minority language, and Afrikaans place names are a lost case. --Voyageur (kontak) 16:56, 4 Julie 2008 (UTC)

Ek weet nie hoe hierdie werk nie, maar is mens nie maar veronderstel om die benaming van die stad in ons eie taal te behou nie? Dis soos, al is die amptelike naam iets anders, staan dit steeds in ons eie taal met 'n ander naam bekend. Is daar geen riglyn wat aandui hoe mens hier te werk gaan nie? Bitter min mense weet wie of wat Emalahleni is, so ek weet nie of dit enigeen help om die heeltyd hierdie naam te gebruik nie. Maar dis net 'n vraag. We mean that, even if the official name is something else, nobody knows the place under that name. Afrikaans people generally already have names for places, and now even though the foreign name is something else, we still refer to it with the traditional name. Interestingly, the FAQ of Emalahleni uses both Witbank and Emalahleni ( apparently not the Zulu-locative eMalahleni) as 'delivery centers'. Does this mean that part of Emalahleni is still called Witbank? Jcwf (kontak) 06:07, 3 Maart 2009 (UTC)

I have recently found that the name wasn't changed, but instead it's municipality was changed, while changing the name is under intense negosiation. Much like Pretoria (Tshwane). However i only get these facts from english wikipedia and a few south africa sites.

Every wikipedia uses witbank, even the ultra-liberal german wikipedia - and i should also note that many cities/towns in south africa have had their municiplaty changed to something ridiculously long (sorry for my spelling), while the 'white'/'afrikaans' name stayed for the actual town.cities/towns name changes are most prominant in the limpopo where only 2% of the population is white, so theres less oppositon.--Bezuidenhout (kontak) 07:04, 3 Maart 2009 (UTC)

Time has gone by and Emalaleni (or however you spell it) has become more used. All signs to the city now refer to it as Emalaleleni. However whether which one is used media wise is debatable. Ben Bezuidenhout (kontak) 13:34, 12 Junie 2010 (UTC)
