Original design by Ira Allen, carved by Reuben Dean in 1798, the current version is a near-exact duplicate of this original seal, having been worn out by 1821. As governed by 13 V.S.A. § 1904, the seal may be duplicated for use for medals or for public displays not connected with any advertising, provided that the use does not imply state endorsement or approval when none has been given. It is not to be used in non-state commercial works. This rendition is the original of the state, the image file however was taken from the website of the Vermont Historical Society, which maintains that its content may be reproduced educational purposes.
