Ben, kan jy asseblief vir ons verduidelik hoe jy die beeld gemaak het? Van waar is dit afgelaai of ingeskandeer? Groete. Frank (kontak) 06:26, 25 Oktober 2008 (UTC)[antwoord]

Hi, Ben. I just want to explain quickly: although I'm not saying that you're not capable of drawing an image such as this one, I doubt that this is the case here - even though you referred to it as your "own work". Scanning something from a book does not make you the author of the picture - the person who originally drew it retains his right to be recognised as the author, as well as the copyright of the picture. Due to the nature of the encyclopaedia, we can only accept free works, in other words, I should be
  • free to use the work and enjoy the benefits of using it
  • free to study the work and to apply knowledge acquired from it
  • free to make and redistribute copies, in whole or in part, of the information or expression
  • free to make changes and improvements, and to distribute derivative works (even for a profit; commercial use)
The last two points are especially relevant, since they do not apply to the majority of images found in books/on the internet. Always look for a little text anywhere that makes the image available under a free license. See [1] for examples of well-known free licenses. Note that "Public domain"-images are also allowed. "Public domain" is not a license, but indicates that an author has given up any rights he has over his work and placed the picture in the public domain (free for anyone to use as they see fit). I just wanted to make sure that you understood this, since you obviously can't know what no-one's told you. Anrie (kontak) 07:27, 25 Oktober 2008 (UTC)[antwoord]
You're right, i didn't draw it and to avoid any copyright, i don't really see the point of having this image so i just simply think it should be deleted. --Bezuidenhout (kontak) 15:56, 25 Oktober 2008 (UTC)[antwoord]
