Elke gebruiker het so ’n bladsy.

Jcwf (kontak) 18:36, 26 Oktober 2017 (UTC)[antwoord]

Sien lugkoepel hoe dit uitsien.
Hi Jcwf, I am not very familiar with editing Wiktionary, and I don't think my command of Afrikaans is up to editing Wikiwoordeboek, but anyone is welcome to use anything from my list to add to it, if it meets the requirements. I must warn you that some of the terminology translations I have made are probably original research as there are no authorised translations available. Please keep me informed of developments as I would be very happy to see more diving terminology in Wikiwoordeboek/Wiktionary. The original glossary on English Wikipedia is under the standard licence, but anything I have personally contributed to the glossary (which includes most of the translations) may be used under CC0 if that better suits Wikiwoordeboek/Wiktionary.
I am not sure how best to handle the current Woordelys on Afrikaans Wikipedia, and have not managed to get any advice in the Geselshoekie. I don't know whether leaving in the English versions would be considered appropriate, which is certainly something that would fit in on Wiktionary/Wikiwoordeboek. If it would be more appropriate the English versions can be stripped out before moving to main space, but I don't want to remove them before there is a consensus translation, so I am a bit stuck at the moment. How do you think it would be received if I moved the whole article to main space for fixing and gradual removal of English versions, possibly by commenting them out, as the Afrikaans versions are accepted? (The green versions are approved by at least one other editor, red still need approval and/or improvement, blue are partly improved, but not yet approved.) I will also keep the Bilingual version somewhere for reference, possibly in user space, or maybe somewhere else, like Wikiversity, as I would eventually like to add other languages. Pbsouthwood (kontak) 06:08, 27 Oktober 2017 (UTC)[antwoord]
My command of Afrikaans is limited as well (I'm Dutch) but there is plenty of stuff that I can do like adding Dutch words at Wiktionary. English words would be quite welcome too, as long as you know the Afrikaans translation or -if there is no such thing- you could give a decent description in Afrikaans. Another thing is that 'original research' works a little differently there. Using google to research the internet and to find out how people use(d) a certain word is considered normal lexicography and part of our normal activities. Inventing your own words is a different matter: that is not allowed. So if you can find, say, a diving chat room where a certain Afrikaans word is used in a certain way you are in business. What you are describing as what you wish to do is really why wiktionary was invented. Jcwf (kontak) 13:18, 27 Oktober 2017 (UTC)[antwoord]
Jcwf, If there are any diving chat rooms where Afrikaans is used, I don't know about them. I avoid inventing words whenever I can find a sourceable option, but have had to make best guess combinations, particularly for multiple word terms, each word of which can be translated in more than one way. I have had to choose the subset which look the most plausible. When those are concatenated in the usual Afrikaans way, I end up with words which may or may not be new. Whenever I found a translation in a dictionary I added a reference. I used Pharos online a lot while the free trials lasted. All those translations are reliable, but not necessarily unique. I usually stopped when I found one that looked right, though there are cases where more than one are listed as I couldn't decide which was best. I have not googled all the concatenations to see if anyone else has used them like that, but where I have there are usually no hits. On the other hand, the English terms are pretty reliable, and the English descriptions are probably all sourceable to some level. Therefore the Afrikaans descriptions are also reasonably accurate, though probably not as grammatically and idiomatically correct as can be desired. I entirely approve of Wiktionary and understand what it is for, but I can work no more than 24 hours per day even theoretically, and am further constrained by the need to eat and sleep, so I may find time for it someday, but probably not this year. Cheers, Pbsouthwood (kontak) 14:51, 27 Oktober 2017 (UTC)[antwoord]
