Die subfilum Hexapoda, wat ses pote beteken, is insekagtiges, die grootste groep geleedpotiges (in terme van die aantal spesies) en sluit insekte in, asook drie kleiner groepe geleedpotiges sonder vlerke: Collembola (springsterte), Protura (oerinsekte), en Diplura. Hierdie drie groepe was voorheen as insekte beskou, maar word nou saam gegroepeer as die Entognathaklas.[3] Insekagtiges is genoem na hul mees kenmerkende eienskap: 'n toraks wat bestaan uit drie gekonsolideerde liggaamselemente, met drie pare pote. Die meeste ander geleedpotiges het meer as drie pare pote.[3]
