Jerome David Salinger (1 Januarie 1919 – 27 Januarie 2010) was 'n Amerikaanse skrywer. Hy is veral bekend vir sy 1951-roman getiteld The Catcher in the Rye. Salinger het verskeie kortverhale gepubliseer in die tydskrif Story in 1940, voordat hy diens gedoen het in die Tweede Wêreldoorlog. In 1948 het sy krities bekroonde verhaal "A Perfect Day for Bananafish" verskyn in The New Yorker, wat baie van sy latere werk gepubliseer het.

The Catcher in the Rye (1951) was 'n onmiddellike sukses; Salinger se uitbeelding van adolessente vervreemding en die verlies van onskuld was invloedryk op veral jong lesers.
