Kappa Crucis (ook onder meer κ Cru of HD 111973) is ’n spektroskopiese dubbelster in die oop sterreswerm NGC 4755, wat ook as die Kappa Crucis- of Juweelkis-sterreswerm bekend is. Dit is in die sterrebeeld Suiderkruis (Crux).

Ligging[wysig | wysig bron]

κ Crucis is een van die helderste sterre in die sterreswerm.^[6] Dit vorm een been, regs onder, of suid, van die prominente asterisme "A" in die middel van die swerm. Dit is deel van die Centaurus OB1-assosiasie en is sowat 8 500 ligjare van die Son af.

Die swerm, en dus κ Cru self, lê net suidoos van β Crucis, die linkerkantste ster van die bekende Suiderkruis-asterisme.

Eienskappe[wysig | wysig bron]

κ Crucis is ’n helder superreus met ’n sterreklassifikasie van B3 Ia. Wisselings in die radiale snelheid dui op die teenwoordigheid van ’n metgesel-ster.^[7] Vanweë κ Crucis se grootte en temperatuur is sy ligsterkte meer as 150 000 keer dié van die Son. Die swerm waarin die ster voorkom se ouderdom word op 11,2 miljoen jaar geraam.^[8]
