On other place in the literature is to read concerning of the events of this day (from: H. Brackenbury, G.L. Huyshe: Fanti and Ashanti, London 1873):

English: "...On 23rd June the Ashantees had advanced so near to Cape Coast that the seamen and marines were landed for its defense from the ships in the roads. But no attack took place. On 11th July, a native force from Accra and other auxiliares having arrived, a general engagement took place, but withut decisive results. The forces lay opposite each other till the night of the 13th, when the Ashantees retired, remaining, however in the Fanti territory, and living upon it for many months unmolested, till smallpox committed such ravages."
Deutsch: "...Am 23. Juni waren die Aschantis bis in die Nähe von Cape Coast vorgedrungen, so dass Seeleute und Marinesoldaten zur Verteidigung der Stadt aus den Schiffen auf der Reede angelandet wurden, um gegen die Ashantis vorzugehen. Aber ein Angriff fand zunächst nicht statt. Am 11. Juli waren auch Einheiten zur Verstärkung aus Accra und von anderen tributpflichtigen Volksgruppen angekommen. An diesem Tag fand ein allgemeines Zusammentreffen zwischen beiden feindlichen Verbänden statt, das aber ohne entscheidende Ergebnisse verlief. Sowohl die englischen, als auch die ashantischen Verbände, lagen sich bis in die Nacht des 13. Juli gegenüber, als sich die Aschantis plötzlich überraschend zurückzogen. Obwohl immer noch im Fanti-Gebiet befindlich, verblieben sie hier noch einige Monate lang, unbehelligt von den Briten und ihren Vebündeten, bis der Ausbruch der Pocken innerhalb ihrer Reihen sie zum endgültigen Rückzug zwang."
