Lukas Hottinger

Lukas Hottinger (25 Februarie 1933, Düsseldorf - 4 September 2011, Basel) was 'n paleontoloog, bioloog en geoloog. Hottinger het saam met die Natuurhistoriese Museum van Basel (Switserland) gewerk .

Hottinger was een van die belangrikste kundiges op hedendaagse en fossiel foraminifera. In 1997 verwerf hy die Cushman-toekenning van die "Cushman Foundation for Foraminiferal Research" (Journal of Foraminiferal Research, vol. 28/1, 1-2) vir sy lewenslange bydraes tot foraminiferale navorsing. Professor Hottinger het in 1959 sy Ph.D-proefskrif oor Paleoseen en Eoseen Alveolina onder leiding van professor Manfred Reichel voltooi. Sy proefskrif oor Paleogene Alveolina bevat genus- en spesiedefinisies en veranderings deur die tyd, die begrip van filogenetiese afstammelinge, en hul gebruik in sonale biochronologie. Gepubliseer as 'n dubbele volume van "Mémoires Suisse de Paleontologie" in 1960, bly dit die gesaghebbende werk op hierdie unieke foraminifera. Van 1959 tot 1964 het hy in Morokko gewerk vir die geologiese opname onder leiding van Georges Choubert en Anne Faure-Muret, 'n tyd wat noodsaaklik was vir sy vorming.
