Amharies (አማርኛ Amarəñña, [amarɨɲːa], luister (hulp·inligting)) is na Arabies die belangrikste Semitiese taal wat deur sowat 22 miljoen mense gepraat word. Dit vorm die ampstaal en omgangstaal van Ethiopië, terwyl Oromo die mees gesproke taal is. Daar is ook Amharies-sprekende minderhede in Eritrea en Israel. Amharies word deur die Amhare gepraat en het sy eie alfabet waarin dié taal se naam as አማርኛ geskryf word. Amharies is nou verwant aan Tigrinya en Tigre, al drie het uit die antieke taal Ge'ez ontwikkel.
