Stollingsteenmiddel
'n Stollingsteenmiddel, algemeen bekend as 'n bloedverdunner, is 'n chemiese stof wat die stolling van bloed voorkom of verminder en sodoende die stollingstyd verleng.[1] Sommige kom natuurlik voor in bloedsuiende diere, soos bloedsuiers en muskiete, wat help om die bytplek lank genoeg ongestol te hou sodat die dier bloed kan kry.[2][3]
As 'n klas farmaseutiese middels word stollingsteenmiddels in die behandeling van trombotiese afwykings gebruik.[4] Orale stollingsteenmiddels word deur baie mense in die vorm van tablette geneem, en verskeie binneaarse middels word in hospitale gebruik.[5][6]
Een van die eerste stollingsteenmiddels, warfarin, is aanvanklik as 'n knaagdierdoder goedgekeur.[7] Stollingsteenmiddels is nou verwant aan antiplaatjiemiddels en trombolitiese middels omdat hulle die verskillende roetes van bloedstolling beïnvloed.[8]
