Deutsch: Apostel Markus, Abbildung 21 aus dem Lorscher Evangeliar, auch als Codex Aureus Laureshamensis bekannt, vermutlich in der Hofschule Karls des Großen entstanden.

Die karolingische Handschrift wurde 1622 im 30-jährigen Krieg aus der Heidelberger Bibliotheca Palatina gestohlen und zum leichteren Verkauf in vier Teile aufgeteilt:

  • Erster Schriftteil - Matthäus- und Markus-Evangelium mit Titelbogen und Heiligenverzeichnis

  • Zweiter Schriftteil - Lukas- und Johannes-Evangelium & Elfenbeintafel des Rückseiten-Einbands

English: Mark the Evangelist, image 21 of the Codex Aureus of Lorsch or Lorsch Gospels, presumably written in the scriptorium of the Lorsch Abbey (Hofschule Karls des Großen), Germany.

This Carolingian manuscript was stolen 1622 from the Bibliotheca Palatina in Heidelberg, during the Thirty Years' War. In order to be easy to sell, the codex was broken in four parts:

  • First written part - Gospels of Matthew and Mark, preliminary matter and canon tables
Todays location: Batthyaneum (National) Library, Alba Iulia, Romania
  • Second written part - Gospels of Luke and John & Ivory panels from the rear cover
Todays location: Vatican Library
  • Ivory panels from the front cover
Todays location: Victoria and Albert Museum, London, (Inv.-Nr. 138-1866)
