In die vier-en-'n-half dekades sedert haar nasionaletrefferlysdebuut bly sy een van die suksesvolste vroulike kunstenaars in die geskiedenis van die countrygenre, wat aan haar die titel "Die Koningin van Countrymusiek" besorg het[1] met vyf-en-twintig nommereen-enkelsnitte,[2] en 'n rekord een-en-veertig toptien-countryalbums.[3] Sy word spesiaal onderskei omdat sy in elk van die laaste vyf dekades 'n topvyf-countrytreffer opgevoer het[4] en omdat sy die enigste kunstenaar is om in elk van die laaste vier dekades 'n nommereen-countryenkelsnit voort te bring.[5] Sy is beroemd vir haar kenmerkende sopraanstem,[6] soms ontugtige humor, flambojante drag en wulpse karakter.
