Sjabloon:Psychology sidebar Theology of the Court Jester is a school of theology within Christianity developed by the theologian Hendrik Pretorius. It is based on the Biblical message as presented by biblical figures that fulfilled a similar function as Court Jesters of latter years, typically including figures like Job and Jesus. The Theology of the Court Jester is a critical theology playing an indispensable socio-political and evolutionary role. It was widely popularised by the media. The jester is also perceived as being on the side of the people, the little man fighting oppression by the powerful.

The central tenet of the “Theology of the Court Jester” is for the marginalised to fool wisely and win favour among people: “en folastrant sagement gaigna de grace parmy le people”, especially those amongst the status quo.

It emphasizes the Christian mission to bring justice to the marginalised, particularly through political activism and by evolutionary fluctuation. Its theologians consider sin the root source of marginalisation, the sin in question being exploitative status quo normativity and class war by the insiders against the outsiders. It has a range of meanings: broadly, especially in the media, it may refer to any politically-activist Christian thought, but the technical sense is narrower. Other than Liberation Theologians who use political theory, primarily Marxism, to help understand how to combat poverty, “Theology of the Court Jester” uses evolutionary theory, and primarily draws on physics, astrophysics, behavioral ecology, artificial intelligence, genetics, ethology, anthropology, archaeology, biology, and zoology.
